Ah man the good old days. I could afford to live at Yonge and Eglinton and have a car and not be always stuck in gridlock. CityTV, Much Music, Queen street was always hopping with lots of cool independent shops where I got awesome clothing. Phoenix Concert Theatre, Velvet Underground and others. The live-to-air broadcasts with Martin Streak. Now everyone stares at their phones and music is garbage.

5th gen Torontonian, still here. Born in 1982. THIS was my childhood. The Eaton Centre (meeting at the fountain if we got lost), Lime Ricky’s, Lick’s and Toby’s burgers, walking down Yonge with my mum and sister and my mum holding our hands tightly in the sketchy bits, the Spaghetti Factory for birthday parties , St. Lawrence market and the smell of fish that stuck to your clothes , going to the Ex in the summer and watching my sister scream on the polar express. I was too afraid to go on rides. Huge lineups for Tiny Tom’s doughnuts (that hasn’t changed). This just made me so nostalgic and really sad in a weird way. Thanks for posting. 🥲❤

Anyone remember Lime Ricky’s? I used to love that place, the milkshakes were so good. I remember loving all the cosmetics too and begging my mum to take me into Eatons to let the perfume ladies spray me, I was like 5. Then I’d take the little paper card they sprayed it on and put it in my purse, lol. Simpler times, I miss those days. ❤❤ Such fond memories.

I remember going to the Cineplex in the Eaton Cetre, I believe it was 1980 when I was 13. My friend and I were expecting 21 full size cinemas, and when we got there the theatres were lucky to have 30-50 seats each. The screen was equivalent to what you'd see in a sports bar today. We went to see the Blues Brothers which had all the 'F' bombs edited out because we weren't old enough to see the 'R' version. Good times. 😄

Imagine you saw yourself on video? This was the ideal time to be in Toronto buying and holding onto real estate. Fast forward 2024, It’s congested It’s become mean It’s become more violent Increase in homelessness Increase in mental health issues Influx of too many foreigners Too many building everywhere High prices in food, rents, water and cost of living overall! Many stores out of business do to change in the economy and the digital age Change in our leader to a “guy next door lookalike” Feel free to comment or agree/disagree with the above. What made Toronto exciting and a desired place to live for you? Hot dogs were $1.50 in 1997, now $5! It’s all the money printing, capitalistic debt system that fuels higher priced goods! The entire globe is running off of taxpayer money, bonds and a growing concerning debt bubble
